We will create a dialogue through art so that LGBT people and their allies have
a voice of distinction and are recognized for their integrity, resilience, and achievement.
Our Executive Director, Joshua Cline states it best, “ A strongly held personal belief is that we must create the change we want to see in the world.
The path of least resistance is to complain about inequality, respond to tragedies with “thoughts and prayers”, and to wait for someone else to take action.
We CULTIVATE acceptance of LGBTQ+ people through harmony to bring the community together to celebrate the wonder of the performing arts. We COMMUNICATE through compassion that people of all walks of life add value to the community. We CREATE equality – a community, a Commonwealth, a nation, and a world where all voices are free.”
Spectrum Arts formed Hill City Pride in the fall of 2018 as another avenue for visibility and acceptance within our community. We have partnered with the Diversity Office at the University of Lynchburg, Randolph College, and Sweet Briar College to bring all of the communities together with the residential community of Lynchburg and its surrounding areas. We are intentionally focusing on the LGBTQ+ communities to bringing new awareness and visibility by offering a “brave and safe space” in which all may gather.
